Within the spectacular countryside of Dumfries and Galloway lies the hidden forest gem that is Marthrown of Mabie. With a fantastic range of accommodation options from wild camping through to yurts, a tipi and even a Celtic Iron Age Roundhouse you are guaranteed a truly magical holiday in a far-off forest wonderland.
Our site has a private outdoor hot shower, 2 dry composting toilets set in rustic wooden buildings, washing up area and covered BBQ cooking area, usable in all weather conditions and complete with tables and chairs and electricity for lighting and music. We also have an authentic Finnish sauna, a wood-fired Hot Tub and for the truly brave, there is our infamous ice-cold bucket shower! We also have the Marthrown Challenge Course which will really test the skills of even the most determined participants to complete the whole circuit without touching the ground.
The first thing you notice about the wild camping area is the view. Seasoned campers have referred to this site as having the joys of wild camping with the convenience of facilities, and no risk of being moved on.
For those that want a bit more luxury, we have two Mongolian Yurts tucked away in their own secluded areas with BBQ, chimenea and their own picnic table. Each have a wood burning stove as the centrepiece - perfect for a cosy evening in.
For a slightly different experience, how about an adventure in a Native American style Tipi with a wood burning stove to keep you cosy?
Or maybe you prefer a truly rare experience? If so, our Iron-Age roundhouse is Marthrown's "Jewel in the Crown". It has stunning vistas all around and with recently upgraded flooring, furnishings and electric lighting, it is truly a 5-star Roundhouse.
All the site feels like a million miles from anywhere as you become part of the woodland, gaze at the stunning dark skies and enjoy nature and the simpler ways of life.
