Wild Oak Woods is a stunningly beautiful site within a 54-acre nature reserve making it perfect for those hoping for a glimpse of red squirrels, deer, badgers or a whole multitude of trees, flowers and animals. This authentic Eco-Site is situated in an area of Dumfries and Galloway renowned for its breath-taking views, unspoiled wildlife habitats and fabulous local produce.
For 2021, there is reduced capacity at the site, giving the advantage of even more privacy and peace. You can choose from four cosy camping cabins which offer simple, eco-glamping accommodation, bring your own tent or your self-contained campervan. The camping cabins are insulated, have wood burning stoves, proper beds and futons, solar lighting and compost toilets. The facilities block provides showers and a small kitchen and is available to cabin residents by booking a time slot as part of our Covid 19 management.
There are plenty of places to see and things to do nearby. Whether you prefer Sandyhills Bay beach just half a mile away, visit the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere, take a short walk through the wood to the Barend pub and restaurant or take in the historic New Abbey Corn Mill and Threave Castle and Gardens. You might want to explore the local area and take in the many beautiful walks including the Rockcliffe to Sandyhills coastal path and Balcary to Rascarrel cliff walk. Or take to mountain bike to explore Dalbeattie forest which boasts one of the 7 Stanes mountain bike routes.
Within the woods, you can take part in “Families in the Woods” activities. Normally, this would include a choice of Den Building, Art in The Park, Minibeast Safaris, Animal Tracking and Nature Games. However due to current restrictions only Den Building is available at present.
This off grid, environmentally friendly site offers a unique, peaceful, back to nature holiday experience for those that enjoy the great outdoors. At Wild Oak Woods there is always a chance to experience nature up close and personal so keep your eyes peeled!
